9 Reasons Your Kobalt Electric Mower May Have an Uneven or Poor Cut
There are a number of potential causes for your mower to no longer provide the clean cut it once did.
Damaged wheels, dull, bent, or worn blades, the incorrect mower deck height, too rapid of ground speed, or a clogged mower deck can all lead to a poor cut quality on a Kobalt electric mower.
Read on for a list of more ways in which you could ruin your Kobalt mower’s blade.
Take the necessary measures, such as turning off the mower, disconnecting the battery, and waiting for all moving parts to stop, before attempting any repairs.

Kobalt Electric Mower Cuts Unevenly
Kobalt Electric Mower with a Broken Wheel
You should check for a damaged wheel on your Kobalt mower if you are getting an inconsistent cut.
Mowers can become unbalanced if one of their wheels becomes damaged. Therefore, one side of your mower’s deck will be lower to the ground than the other. In such a case, the cut will be lopsided.
A push mower’s wheels can become loose or damaged, making the mower unbalanced and difficult to use. Check the tires and the brakes. You should cinch down any dangling screws and swap out any bent wheels.
Kobalt Electric Mower Has a Dull or Worn Mower Blade
The Kobalt lawnmower blade is the next item to examine. Wearing on the blade prevents it from performing well when cutting grass. The grass will be torn to shreds by a dull blade.
The browning of your grass a day or two after you mow is an indication of this. A dull blade will tear and beat the grass, causing the tips to turn brown.
When you see a lawn where the tips have turned brown, pick up a handful and examine them. Are there tiny tears in there? If that’s the case, the blade of your Kobalt lawnmower probably needs to be sharpened or replaced.
If the blades on your mower are still in good shape, you can remove them and sharpen them using a file.
If your mower blade is very worn, has gouges, has rounded ends, or the sail is thinner at the edge than it is in the middle, you should get a new one.
The high side of the blade, known as the sail, allows air to flow under the deck, making for a cleaner cut.
Kobalt mower blade balancing
Check that there is no disparity in weight between the two ends of the blade. Sand sucked into the mower deck’s underside can cause uneven blade wear, which can throw the balance off.
If a blade is not sharpened properly, it can become uneven at any time. Blades become imbalanced when more material is removed from one end than the other.
A blade balancer can help you ensure that your blades are perfectly balanced. The cost of a balancer is low. Your Kobalt mower is too expensive to risk harm from an imbalanced blade.
To ensure the blade is balanced, you can also suspend it from a nail that has been affixed to the wall, with the nail head jutting out about 3/4″ to 1″.
To make the blade sit flush, you’ll need to file away metal from the lower end.
Mower Blade is Warped on a Kobalt Electric Lawn Mower
If you run your Kobalt mower into something substantial like a rock, stump, or toy, the blade may bend and ruin your cut.
You should stroll the lawn before starting the mower to make sure there is nothing in the way that the blade could damage.
Uneven cutting results from a bent blade. Vibrations in the mower may also result. The best way to tell if a blade is bent is to take it out and look at it under a microscope.
Stop the mower on a level place and disconnect the battery (s). Don’t try to get under the mower deck until you’ve made sure all the moving parts have stopped.
- Examine the Kobalt Lawnmower Blade for Bending In this way, the Knife is Disabled
Taking out the old blade and laying it on top of a brand new Kobalt mower blade. Using this method, you can easily tell if your blade is crooked. A minor kink might be disastrous in terms of the cut you get.
When a mower blade gets bent, you should never try to straighten it out so you can use it again. This weakens and compromises the metal in question.
The damaged piece may come loose and fly off your mower deck if you’re going fast enough. This poses a risk to the safety of nearby humans, animals, and property.
Misaligned Blade on a Kobalt Electric Lawn Mower
Using a dull blade or a blade that isn’t installed properly will ruin your Kobalt mower. Blade installation should be performed with the sail raised.
Sails are the blade’s elevated edges, which catch the wind and fling the grass. The blade’s motor can be damaged if it is mounted with the sail down.
The blade will beat and shred the grass instead of cutting it evenly. The blade and/or engine could be damaged if it collides with any raised areas of ground.
Mower blades made by Kobalt typically have a stamp on them indicating whether the up or down side should be facing the ground.
Kobalt Electric Mower’s Loose Blade
If the blade isn’t properly fastened, it won’t spin and your mower won’t do its job. For information on how much torque should be applied when tightening the blade bolt, please consult your user handbook.
Height of Cut Adjustment on a Kobalt Electric Lawnmower
If the deck of your mower is adjusted too low, it may not be able to cut through all of the grass at once.
If you want to avoid overworking the motor, raise the mower deck when mowing dense, tall grass.
Double or even quadruple your lawn cutting sessions when the grass is long and thick. Put the highest cutting height setting on the mower deck for the initial pass. Deck height must be lowered with each successive cut until the desired length is reached.
Grass Clogs the Deck of Kobalt Electric Mower
If the grass gets stuck in the mower deck of your Kobalt, you won’t get a good cut. Reason being, the blade is unable to generate the necessary airflow under your deck, preventing a clean, precise cut.
The suction created by the mower deck and blade allows the grass to be lifted out of the way of the cutting blade, ensuring a clean, equal cut.
If your mower’s deck is clogged with grass clippings, your motor will have to work harder to turn the blade, which can cause premature wear.
In order to prevent the development of grass and dirt on the mower deck, it should be cleaned on a regular basis with a deck scraper or wire brush. Try not to mow the grass when it’s damp. When grass gets wet, it clumps and becomes difficult to mow.
Kobalt Electric Mower Ground Speed Too Fast
To get a satisfactory cut, you must adapt your ground speed to the conditions under which you are cutting.
The Kobalt mower may simply be pushing over portion of the grass instead of cutting it if you don’t regulate the speeds appropriately and move too quickly through your lawn, resulting in an uneven or poor cut.
When mowing through grass that is very dense, tall, or damp, your lawn mower will be under significant strain. If you want your mower to keep up, you’ll need to slow down.
Overloading the motor is another potential cause of it shutting down, along with a faulty cut.
The Lawn Isn’t Even
See how the grass on your lawn is doing. Even if you have a Kobalt mower, you still have an uneven lawn. Your once-even lawn may now be riddled with ruts and lumps.
Because of the rats who burrow under my lawn, I have to roll it every spring when the snow melts in order to make it flat. It’s not only that the mower won’t stay in one place if I don’t do this, but that the cut will be subpar.
Be sure to inspect your lawn for any necessary repairs to ensure that it stays level and healthy.
