Is Solenoid on Your Husqvarna Lawnmower Faulty? (Troubleshoot)
If you hear a clicking or humming noise but can’t get your lawnmower to start, it could be due to a broken solenoid. To help you locate and recognize a malfunctioning starter solenoid, I have offered some pointers.
When the starter motor can turn over the engine without the Husqvarna starter solenoid, you know the solenoid is broken.
The battery charger can be used to check the starter solenoid, which is attached to the starter, to see whether it is defective.
If you’re going to be tinkering with the starter solenoid, do so carefully. Avoid harm by taking all the necessary measures as outlined in your Husqvarna operator’s manual.

Husqvarna lawn mower solenoids—what are they?
An on/off switch, a solenoid is a component of a Husqvarna lawn mower. To activate the starter motor and get the engine cranking, one must activate a switch that uses an electromagnet.
It is common practice to attach the starter solenoid to the starter motor, but this is not required for proper operation. Lawnmower solenoids are sometimes placed in a more accessible location, such as near the battery instead of the starter.
3&4 Post Solenoids
This is a standard wiring diagram for solenoids with three or four terminals. Keep in mind that not every lawnmower has the same wiring diagram.
On some Husqvarna mowers, you can find wiring diagrams for extras like lights and 12-volt ports. These schematics merely show the most fundamental aspects of the wiring.
Husqvarna Lawn Mower Solenoid Identification?
Solenoids can have a range of visual manifestations. It’s possible that round and square shapes exist. It might have three or four posts protruding from it. The starter will have a few solenoids attached to the top.
One side of the solenoid is connected to the positive (+) battery cable that powers the Husqvarna chainsaw. Locating the solenoid is as simple as following the positive connection from the battery.
Every Husqvarna engine that uses an electric starter has a solenoid.
When does a Husqvarna lawn mower’s solenoid fail and why?
An electrical switch known as a Husqvarna solenoid. Sometimes, electricity just stops working.
A spring and copper plate are housed within the solenoid.
If the spring in your Husqvarna starter solenoid becomes weak or if the copper plate corrodes, you may have a problem.
A weak starter, faulty battery, or poor ground might potentially cause the solenoid to malfunction.
If you need to diagnose a solenoid, it helps to know what signs to look for.
Lawn Mower Husqvarna Solenoid Warning Signs
Turning the key in the ignition may cause a click or hum, but if the mower still won’t start, the Husqvarna zero-turn starter solenoid may be at fault.
When a wire starts to smoke or melt at high temperatures, this could be a sign that your solenoid is malfunctioning.
How to Recognize a Faulty Solenoid on a Husqvarna Lawnmower
Make a Checklist of Necessary Equipment:
- Volt-Ohm Meter
- Screwdriver
- Light Persistence
- Tools for testing for frayed wiring
- Forceps with a Needle Nose (If screwdriver does not work)
- Power Source: Battery Charger (Optional)
There are several options available to you for determining the problem with your lawn mower’s solenoid.
Ensure Your Husqvarna Batteries Is Fully Charged
Check the voltage of your battery with a voltmeter to ensure it’s at least 12.3 volts.

Preparing Your Husqvarna Mower:
- Put on the brakes and park
- Put your lawn mower in park and give it a rest.
- Flip the switch to the on position.
Screwdriver-Bypass the Husqvarna Starter Solenoid
In order to avoid using the starter, lay a long screwdriver over the solenoid and touch the two cables. The battery cable and the starter cable are the two wires you need to get your engine started.
When the screwdriver comes into touch with the wires, a spark may be produced. This happens frequently, so there’s no need for worry.
There is a significant possibility that your solenoid is broken if the engine starts when you have it bypassed.
Needle nose pliers are an alternative to a screwdriver for jumping a solenoid.
Make sure there are no dangling wires or a poor ground before you go ahead and replace the starter solenoid. In some cases, these obstructions can prevent electricity from reaching the solenoid.
Check the Husqvarna Starter Solenoid
Tests can be performed on starters with attached solenoids. Take the engine’s starting off and plug a battery charger into the solenoid to see whether it works. This is a useful method for checking the starter’s solenoid connection.
After taking the starter off your lawnmower, you should connect the negative (-) clamp to the starter’s housing and the positive (+) clamp to the solenoid’s large post and exciter wire. The starter is out, so we’re just doing a fast bench test.
Can the Solenoid for a Husqvarna Lawn Mower Be Removed?
When connecting the battery cable to the starting cable on a Husqvarna, the solenoid can be bypassed by inserting a long screwdriver across the solenoid.
Always exercise caution. It’s typical for the connection to produce a spark. Put on protective gear at all times.
Your Husqvarna Won’t Turn Over or Crank Despite Having a Good Starting Solenoid
Check the battery, connections, starter switch, and safety switches if the problem persists and the starter solenoid is fine.
