ECHO Edgers Run on This Blend of Gas and Oil
Incorrect or stale fuel is usually the root cause of edger issues.
Fuel for ECHO edgers is a 50:1 blend of gasoline and oil.
- Fifty percent: unleaded gas with an octane rating of 89 or higher and no more than 10% ethanol.
- Mix 1 part high-quality 2-cycle oil for air-cooled motors.
It’s important to use caution when dealing with fuel and oil. Maintain proper ventilation wherever possible. When the edger has cooled, carefully take off the fuel cap. There can be pressure in the gas tank.
Before diagnosing, repairing, or operating, be sure you’ve read and understood all of the safety recommendations in the equipment’s operator’s manual.
If you don’t feel confident in your ability to make the repair or if you lack the necessary expertise or experience, you should get some help from a professional.

An ECHO Edger with Old or Poor Gas
Gas left in an edger for too long can corrode parts and reduce fuel flow. Possible cause of your edger’s inability to start, slow performance, or premature demise.
When stored improperly, gas can go bad in as little as 30 days. These days, most gas contains ethanol, an alternative fuel that absorbs water from the air.
If you mix ethanol with water, it can corrode your fuel system and ruin your engine. It’s extremely corrosive and creates a varnish that clogs gasoline lines.
Due to the short shelf life of gas, it should be used promptly and used up within 30 days. Add a fuel additive, such as Sea Foam Motor Treatment, if you can’t use it up that fast.
This item will prevent gas from going bad as quickly by lowering the humidity level and stabilizing it. You can also examine if the 2-cycle oil you’re planning on adding to the gas contains a long-term stabilizer. When added to oil, fuel stabilizers can extend its shelf life by 30 days to 2 years (depending on the label).
Unleaded gasoline having an octane rating of 89 or higher and no more than 10% ethanol content is required for use in ECHO edgers. Before pouring the gas into the fuel port, mix in some 2-cycle premium oil.
Don’t buy any gas with an ethanol percentage more than 10%, such as E15, E30, or E85. The maximum percentage of ethanol in these fuels is 15, 30, and 85%, respectively.
You will have fewer problems related to stale fuel if you switch to an ethanol-free fuel. You can get fuels that don’t contain ethanol at any hardware shop or on the internet. You can choose either 2-cycle ECHO Red Armor Premix or 2-cycle TruFuel 50:1 Premix.
You can also buy them as “recreation fuel” at some gas stations (REC-90). Visit pure-gas.org to locate a gas station in your area.
Gas and Oil for 2-Cycle ECHO Edgers
2-Cycle Gas/Oil Blend in ECHO Edgers
The fuel tank of an ECHO edger must be pre-mixed with a 2-cycle premium oil and regular gasoline. Don’t poison your 2-cycle edger with undiluted gas. You should not make this choice.
Gasoline is refined to an exceptionally low moisture content, therefore using only gasoline in a vehicle will cause the engine to seize. The engine’s internal parts won’t be able to move smoothly without the oil that is added to the fuel.
You will probably have to buy a new ECHO edger if you start it up after mistakenly adding plain gas. There will be harm to the motor.
Two-cycle ECHO edgers run on a 50:1 gas-to-oil mixture. To achieve this result, blend 50 parts gasoline with 1 part vegetable oil. To find out how many gallons of oil are needed for a particular mixture, use the chart below.
For this mixture, you should use unleaded gas with an octane rating of 89 or higher (mid-grade) and no more than 10% ethanol. Put in some ISO-L-EGD and JASO M345 FD approved 2-cycle premium oil. Two-cycle engine oil is different from conventional motor oil.
Combining fuel and oil for 2-cycle ECHO trimmers:
- In order to calculate how much fuel mix to make, consult the table below.
- Open a legal gas container and take off the lid. Fill a gas container with unleaded fuel (at least 89 octane and no more than 10% ethanol).
- The necessary number of ounces of oil can be found in the table below. It’s time to fill up the gas tank with some 2-cycle oil.
- Put on the new cap.
- You may combine the gas and oil by gently shaking them together.
- The ECHO edger’s fuel tank needs more.
ECHO Power Mix or ECHO Red Armor is the oil that the manufacturer recommends.
Gas-to-Oil Mixture for Two Cycles
Mixing Gasoline and Oil | 1 Gal Gas | 2 Gal Gas | 2.5 Gal Gas |
---|---|---|---|
50:1 | 2.6 oz Oil | 5.2 oz Oil | 6.4 oz Oil |
Two-Cycle Ethanol-Free Premixed Fuel for an ECHO Edger
When using an ECHO edger, it is recommended that an ethanol-free fuel mix be used to minimize fuel problems and maximize engine life. This oil and gasoline mixture is ethanol-free and ready to be poured into your ECHO edger’s tank.
As was mentioned in the preceding paragraph about gasoline, you will not be subject to the drawbacks of ethanol. ECHO Red Armor and TruFuel 50:1 premixed fuels are two effective products.
In Concluding
The quality of the fuel used in your ECHO edger has a direct impact on its performance and the frequency with which issues arise in the fuel system and the engine. If you’re trying to decide what to put in your edger, consider these guidelines.
- Never re-use gas from an older vehicle.
- Reduce the ethanol content of the gas to no more than 10%.
- Choose fuel with an octane value of 89 or higher.
- Make a 50:1 ratio of 2-cycle gas to oil.
- You may prevent your gas from degrading prematurely by adding a fuel stabilizer to it. The lifespan of stabilizers varies greatly. Fuel can be stored for up to 2 years when treated with a stabilizer like Sea Foam Motor Treatment.
