Small, beautiful and still little known to the great masses: there are almost 160 villages of the Alps that can boast the title of “Les plus beaux villages de France”. They all possess a rich historical, artistic and naturalistic. From the romantic Angles-sur-l Anglin in the New Aquitaine to the picturesque Grignan, surrounded by fragrant lavender fields in the Rhone-Alps: here is the France most beautiful, that perhaps you did not know yet
If the picturesque should be, that the picturesque is. The association Les plus beaux villages de France was founded in 1982 by Charles Ceyrac, mayor of Collonges-la-Rouge, with the objective of promoting tourism in the rural villages and enhance the cultural heritage. The most beautiful villages of France were 66, about thirty years ago. Today there are 158. And thousands of others would like to but (still) can’t. Because to be part of this exclusive club you must undergo an “exam” very hard: the mark of The most beautiful villages of France, in fact, is attributed to the villages with less than 2,000 inhabitants which possess, among others, a rich natural and architectural heritage, with at least two sites included in the historic monuments of the French , and that implement a policy for the promotion and animation of their heritage.
